Axiom Overage Escalation to PagerDuty
Polls Axiom burn rate frequently and, only when the month-end projection crosses a hard overage ceiling with accelerating burn.
How it runs
The automated pipeline, trigger to output.
- TriggerEvery 30 minutes
- ActionQuery Axiom burn rate and trendAxiom
- LogicGate: over ceiling AND accelerating
- ActionOpen PagerDuty incidentPagerDuty
- OutputMirror page to on-call Slack channelSlack
What it does
This is the loud, last-resort tier of budget defense. It watches Axiom burn rate on a tight interval and pages the on-call engineer through PagerDuty only when the month-end projection exceeds a hard ceiling AND the burn is still accelerating — so routine bumps stay quiet but a genuine runaway gets a human fast.
When to use it
Use it when a budget overrun has real financial or contractual consequences and silent automated throttling isn't enough. The double condition (ceiling plus acceleration) keeps it from crying wolf.
How it works
- 1A schedule fires every 30 minutes.
- 2Query Axiom for current burn rate and the trailing burn trend.
- 3A logic gate requires both: projected total over the hard ceiling and burn accelerating vs. the prior window.
- 4If both hold, open a PagerDuty incident with the projection, dataset breakdown, and recommended action.
- 5Mirror the page to the on-call Slack channel so the team has context.
Set it up
What you configure once, before turning it on.
- 1Connect AxiomLog streams, queries, dashboards.
- 2Connect PagerDutyIncidents, on-call, escalations.
- 3Connect SlackChannels, DMs, threads, mentions.
- 4Set each agent's modelWe leave models unset so you pick the tier — fast + cheap, or top-quality.
- 5Tune it to your dataEdit the prompts, filters, and field mappings so it matches how your team works.
- 6Test, then turn it onRun once against a sample, confirm the output, then enable the trigger.
