Page Finance When Duplicate-Tool Spend Crosses a Budget Threshold
On a daily schedule, totals redundant spend across all overlapping categories from Snowflake and, if combined duplicate-tool waste exceeds a set monthly threshold, triggers…
How it runs
The automated pipeline, trigger to output.
- TriggerDaily schedule
- ActionQuery category and vendor spend in SnowflakeSnowflake
- LogicCompute avoidable spend per overlapping category
- LogicBranch if cumulative waste exceeds threshold
- ActionOpen PagerDuty incident for finance on-callPagerDuty
- OutputPost overlap breakdown to Microsoft TeamsMicrosoft Teams
What it does
This turns aggregate tool-overlap waste into an actionable threshold alarm. Each day it sums the avoidable spend across every category where you pay duplicate vendors, using Snowflake as the source of truth. When that total crosses a configured monthly budget threshold, it opens a PagerDuty incident routed to the finance on-call and posts the category-by-category breakdown to a Microsoft Teams channel so the team can triage which overlaps to kill first.
When to use it
Use this when leadership has set a hard ceiling on redundant SaaS spend and wants to be paged the moment cumulative overlap waste breaches it, rather than discovering it at quarter end.
How it works
- 1A daily schedule starts the check.
- 2Snowflake query returns spend grouped by software category and vendor.
- 3A step computes avoidable spend per overlapping category (total minus the cheapest single vendor).
- 4A threshold branch compares cumulative avoidable spend to the configured ceiling.
- 5If breached, a PagerDuty incident is opened for finance on-call.
- 6The ranked overlap breakdown is posted to Microsoft Teams.
Set it up
What you configure once, before turning it on.
- 1Connect SnowflakeWarehouses, queries, shares.
- 2Connect PagerDutyIncidents, on-call, escalations.
- 3Connect Microsoft TeamsChannels, chats, files.
- 4Set each agent's modelWe leave models unset so you pick the tier — fast + cheap, or top-quality.
- 5Tune it to your dataEdit the prompts, filters, and field mappings so it matches how your team works.
- 6Test, then turn it onRun once against a sample, confirm the output, then enable the trigger.
