Escalate department over-budget expense spikes for sign-off
When a new Stripe charge posts, it tallies the department's month-to-date spend against budget and, if a charge pushes a department over threshold, opens a PagerDuty incident…
How it runs
The automated pipeline, trigger to output.
- TriggerNew charge posts in StripeStripe
- ActionUpdate department month-to-date spend
- LogicCheck if charge crosses budget threshold
- ActionOpen PagerDuty incident for ownerPagerDuty
- OutputPost escalation to MS TeamsMicrosoft Teams
What it does
Watches expense charges in real time and tracks running month-to-date spend per department. Most charges just update the tally. But when a charge tips a department past its budget threshold, it treats that as an event worth escalating — opening a PagerDuty incident routed to the finance owner and surfacing it for explicit approval before the period closes.
When to use it
Use this when departmental budgets are firm and an overrun needs immediate owner attention, not a next-day report. Best for finance teams that want real-time budget guardrails with a clear escalation path.
How it works
- 1A new Stripe charge triggers the run.
- 2Add the charge to the department's month-to-date total.
- 3A logic step checks whether the new total crosses the department's budget threshold; under-budget charges end here.
- 4If over budget, open a PagerDuty incident assigned to the department's finance owner with the spend detail.
- 5Post the escalation to the finance MS Teams channel for the approver to acknowledge and sign off.
Set it up
What you configure once, before turning it on.
- 1Connect StripeCustomers, subscriptions, payments.
- 2Connect PagerDutyIncidents, on-call, escalations.
- 3Connect Microsoft TeamsChannels, chats, files.
- 4Set each agent's modelWe leave models unset so you pick the tier — fast + cheap, or top-quality.
- 5Tune it to your dataEdit the prompts, filters, and field mappings so it matches how your team works.
- 6Test, then turn it onRun once against a sample, confirm the output, then enable the trigger.
