What it does

Watches expense charges in real time and tracks running month-to-date spend per department. Most charges just update the tally. But when a charge tips a department past its budget threshold, it treats that as an event worth escalating — opening a PagerDuty incident routed to the finance owner and surfacing it for explicit approval before the period closes.

When to use it

Use this when departmental budgets are firm and an overrun needs immediate owner attention, not a next-day report. Best for finance teams that want real-time budget guardrails with a clear escalation path.

How it works

  1. 1A new Stripe charge triggers the run.
  2. 2Add the charge to the department's month-to-date total.
  3. 3A logic step checks whether the new total crosses the department's budget threshold; under-budget charges end here.
  4. 4If over budget, open a PagerDuty incident assigned to the department's finance owner with the spend detail.
  5. 5Post the escalation to the finance MS Teams channel for the approver to acknowledge and sign off.
